The Reality of Illusion

What defines what is real? Is it the certainty of what we can touch, or the intensity of what we feel when looking at an image?

In this painting, fiction and reality continuously play at blurring into one another. The eye is instantly captured by the dynamic red of the koi fish, but it is the blue that dictates the rules. Breaking the traditional boundaries of the painting, the color overflows onto the surrounding frame. Stepping in to support this visual deception are three real paintbrushes, soaked in matter, which emerge from the canvas to tease the senses—a bridge between imagination and physical space.
